Hello there,

So for most of the week, I've got a pretty good rhythm going. I eat a proper balanced meal, I get my steps in, and I squeeze in a workout at the gym or play some kind of sport.

But when one area of my day gets chaotic, the other areas take a hit. The workout gets skipped and before I know it I've ordered my comfort food and I'm sitting right there in my comfort zone, feeling pretty cozy about it too. Voila!

And honestly, one day like that is totally fine. But I've noticed that one day rarely stays one day. Some weeks I'm at the gym five times without even thinking about it, and other weeks I keep telling myself "I'll start tomorrow" until it's suddenly day seven of that week.

Here's the sneaky part though. Comfort never really feels like a choice we're making, it just feels like we're giving ourselves a little break. But slowly, those little breaks start stacking up and turn into a whole routine of their own, one that we never actually planned for.

So why do we keep falling back into it, even when we know what's good for us?

Turns out our bestie brain is just wired to love the right now. In one study, when people picked a snack for next week, most of them went for fruit. But when they picked a snack to eat right then and there? Most of them grabbed the chocolate. Same people, same goals, and the only thing that changed was the timing.

Basically, your brain listens to the comfort of right now way louder than it listens to the future you. A better gut, better skin, a better mood, all of that is real, but it just feels so far away.

So the comfort zone isn't really a place you fall into, it's more like a slope you slowly slide down, one "just for today" at a time.

And this is where being present really helps. That slide happens when we're on autopilot, but the second you notice it happening, you get your say back.

This week's nudge

Next time you catch yourself reaching for the easy option, just pause for a sec and tell yourself "okay, comfort is calling…" Then do the tiniest version of what you planned. Can't do the full workout? Go for a 10 minute walk. No time to cook? Make the simplest meal you know at home. A small Yes beats a big No, every single time!

You got this 💪

With Love & Care,
